
Taylor Rawlinson, Ph.D., has been selected to receive the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Faculty Advisor/Mentor Award for the 2025–26 academic year.
A professor of practice in the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure & Environment (ESSIE), Rawlinson is a well-known and popular advisor for two key student organizations in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering— the Concrete Canoe Team and the student Steel Bridge Team. Both teams have won multiple consecutive national championships under Rawlinson’s guidance.
Rawlinson joined UF in 2016 with industry experience in structural design and finite element analysis of dams and dam appurtenant structures. He is the director of the Weil Hall Structures and Materials Laboratory, supporting funded research in civil engineering, with projects in materials, construction, structural, geotechnical, industrialized construction and environmental engineering.
As the laboratory manager and faculty advisor for multiple ESSIE student organizations, Rawlinson is an active proponent of experiential learning activities.
He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and his doctorate of civil engineering from Auburn University.
