- State Water Resources Research Institute 104B Program
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 104(b) Water Resources Research Program, authorized under the Water Resources Research Act, supports applied, peer-reviewed research addressing critical water-resource challenges. The program aims to advance innovative solutions that improve water supply reliability, enhance understanding of water-related processes, and address emerging water issues of local, regional, and national significance. In addition to supporting high-quality research, the program promotes the training of future water scientists and engineers and encourages the dissemination of research findings to water managers, policymakers, and the public.
Proposals are invited from faculty, researchers, and collaborators whose work aligns with the program’s objectives. Interdisciplinary projects and efforts that foster collaboration across institutions and stakeholder groups are particularly encouraged.

- Water Resources Research National Competitive Grants 104G Program
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 104(g) National Competitive Grants Program, authorized under the Water Resources Research Act, supports innovative research that addresses significant water-resource challenges of regional, interstate, and national importance. The program is designed to foster collaboration between university researchers and the USGS while advancing scientific understanding and management of the nation’s water resources.
The program encourages high-impact, interdisciplinary research that improves water availability assessments, water quality protection, hydrologic forecasting, ecosystem sustainability, and the understanding of emerging water-resource issues. In addition to advancing water science, the 104(g) program promotes the training of future scientists and engineers and facilitates the transfer of research findings to resource managers, policymakers, and stakeholders.
Proposals are invited from faculty members, researchers, and collaborative teams whose work aligns with current USGS national research priorities. Investigators at accredited institutions of higher education may apply through their state Water Resources Research Institute. Collaborative and innovative projects that address pressing water-resource needs are particularly encouraged.
